Adresseavisen CD review 5***** (Norway):
The Norwegian Wind Ensemble came out with a CD that allows the spirit to thrive. This feels good – real good!
The Norwegian Wind Ensemble is known for its creative and versatile productions, and again they show an impressive freshness with their new CD, „Tiefenträume.”
„…this music, with its many sound colors, leaves you agape with wonder as you listen to „Tiefenträume.”
Schorn’s sound-universe spreads both warmth, joy and a solid dose of contemplation.
Elements of jazz and contemporary music blend into an especially interesting sound-universe.
The Norwegian Wind Ensemble with its 24 professional musicians, creates a shimmering interplay and highlights Schorn’s small musical details in an exquisite way.
Improvisation master Roger Hanschel (saxophone) takes the disc to unimagined heights with his outstanding playing…an endless musical journey ranging from turbulent, impetuous rhythms to an almost complete silence. The result is definitely refreshing!“
Klaus Hübner, JAZZPODIUM (Germany)
„What is here succeeded went all too often a rocky way, leading to the defeat:
to connect jazz and improvised music with new music in a large orchestra at a high level.“
Andreas Kolb, NMZ – Neue Musik Zeitung (Germany)

There is always something very special when jazz musicians venture symphonic sounds and large forms.
Gil Evans, Terje Rypdal, and Mathias Rüegg have set standards here.
But Failure is more the rule.
However, Steffen Schorn belongs to the first category: he calls his idea New Symphonic Improvised Music – with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, he has found the right people to implement it adequately.
„Exceptional music. Dative time meditating, sometimes exotic and groovy album Have fun comes. Here you can relax the depths of the oceans, the universe and the human soul account. Thereby.“
„The second CD tip has the wonderful title of „Deep Dreams“ and is presented by the Norwegian Wind Ensemble. Unfortunately, the disc is only for purchase from 20 September (Inakustik). Unfortunately, because it is exceptional music that has been preserved on this CD. A sometimes meditative, sometimes exotic and groovy album comes along. Here you can relax experience/observe the depths of the oceans, the universe and the human soul. Much fun.“
VPRO JAZZ (Holland)
Symphonic music of a large Norwegian Wind Ensemble, composed and arranged by German woodwind player Steffen Schorn. This man plays all saxophones, clarinets and flutes, from very high and small (f.ex. clarinet in E flat major) to low and large (f.ex. Contrabassax). He plays with himself and also guest musicians: Roger Hanschel saxophones, Rob Waring vibes, Knut Aalefjår and Rune Arnesen drums.
Beautiful music! From whispers and soft hum to great big band sounds.
Musik an sich (Germany)
Steffen Schorn goes together with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble on the way to a musical cosmos of a special kind in the realization of his 9-movement suite Tiefenträume.
